WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE START-UP VISA WORK PERMIT?
Successful applicants for the Start-Up Visa work permit must have already received a Commitment Certificate and a Letter of Support from a designated entity to be eligible for this permit. You will also have to pay the employer compliance fee. Furthermore, you will need to demonstrate that you have sufficient finances to support yourself and your family members while working within Canada. In addition, you must plan to live in a province or territory other than Quebec.
You will need to submit a number of documents with your application.
This includes your:
Letter of Support from an IRCC-designated organization stating that you are essential
Proof of sufficient funds
Copy of your payment receipt for the employer compliance fee
Offer of employment number generated online through the Employer Portal
Medical examination results as needed
Police certificate as needed
HOW TO APPLY for a Start-Up Visa work permit
You can apply for the LMIA-exempt work permit online with electronic copies of the necessary documents and a valid credit card for payments, or on paper. If you are applying from outside Canada, you can submit your application to the nearest Visa Application Center, informing them that you a Start-Up Visa applicant. You can also apply for the LMIA-exempt work permit at the port of entry, presenting copies of all the relevant documents to the Border Officer. If you are applying from inside Canada if eligible, you must complete the Application to Change Conditions, Extend Your Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker.
