Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has extended online visa processing through January 31, 2021. All applications for Temporary Residence, including study permits, work permits, and TRVs must be submitted online.
Online Visa Application Exemptions
There are some exemptions to the online application requirements:
Foreign nationals who are unable to meet a requirement to submit an online application due to a disability;
Foreign nationals who hold an identity or travel document issued by a country to non-national residents, refugees or stateless persons who are unable to obtain a passport or other travel document from their country of citizenship/nationality or who have no country of citizenship or nationality; and,
Seasonal Agricultural Workers: Some countries do not have the required technology to submit applications online. Applications submitted by paper will continue to be processed.
Priority Processing Temporary Residence Visa
IRCC states that applications will continue to be prioritized for those who are eligible to travel based on the current travel restrictions. This includes both new applications and applications that are currently in progress.
Who can travel to Canada during COVID?
The current travel restrictions state that the following individuals are permitted to travel to Canada:
Canadian citizens and permanent residents
Immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents
Essential foreign workers
Some international students
People who have been approved for permanent residence
It’s important to note that travel to Canada must be for a non-discretionary purpose and deemed essential by the Government. The exemptions listed above have conditions that travellers must meet. IRCC outlines the full list of travellers exempt from restrictions.
Travellers entering Canada must have a 14-day quarantine plan to prove that they will quarantine upon entering the country.
