Minimum Necessary Income to Sponsor Family in Canada
To sponsor a family member to Canada, the sponsor must meet or exceed the minimum necessary income requirements. This requirement ensures that sponsors are able to financially support the family members they wish to sponsor and bring to Canada.
The minimum necessary income required varies, depending on the number of family members you support in Canada, the number of family members you wish to sponsor, and where you live (Quebec or the other Canadian provinces). It also changes annually to reflect inflation.
The current minimum necessary income requirements to family members in Canada are:
Total number of persons you’re responsible for / Minimum income required for the 3 years right before the date of your application:
2 persons - $40,379
3 persons - $49,641
4 persons - $60,271
5 persons - $68,358
6 persons - $77,095
7 persons - $85,835
To prove you meet the income requirement, you must provide your Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for the last 3 taxation years before you apply.
If you don’t have your 2018 Notice of Assessment when you apply, you must submit your Notices of Assessment from 2017, 2016 and 2015.
