Are you Ready to Take Your Canadian Citizenship Test?
In March 2020, IRCC stopped all in-person Citizenship tests due to COVID-19. As a result, many applications were put on hold and remain pending.
On November 26th, 2020, IRCC announced that Citizenship tests will resume virtually.
The Citizenship test will be held on a new digital platform, which IRCC will test over the next few months. This development comes after IRCC initiated a modernization plan for the Citizenship test, prior to COVID-19.
Can I take the Canadian Citizenship Test virtually?
Online Citizenship tests will be offered to those whose tests were cancelled due to the pandemic and those who are on the waiting list. IRCC will issue an invitation to these individuals to complete the online test.
It’s important to note that you do not need to reach out to IRCC. Clients who will be invited to take the virtual test will be contacted by IRCC or their representative (if the client used one).
Clients are also allowed to wait until in-person tests resume if they would prefer not to take a digital exam.
How will the virtual test work?
Test takers will confirm their identity by submitting photos of themselves and their identity documents with a webcam before the test begins.
The system will photograph participants during the test to monitor their completion of the questions.
What format is the virtual Citizenship Test?
The online citizenship test will feature 20 questions; participants will have 30 minutes to complete them.
Citizenship applicants will also have 21 days to complete the test at a time that is convenient for them.
